  • Clay was correct and if Vic had been paying attention he would’ve said so. All you have to do is get the IPA of an iOS app onto an M1 mac. Assuming you acquired the app with the same apple ID as the mac is signed into, it will run. FairPlay DRM for the account is the only check performed. When a dev choses to not be in the mac app store his app simply doesn’t show up in the store for download.
  • M1 Mac still Clay’s favorite, but his favorite software isn’t 100% onboard with the love affair (Clay will explain)
  • MacBook Air 13 inch Case
  • Controller for HomeKit received a rather nice update between the last recording and release and consequently doesn’t look like we described it and has a heftier IAP price tag.
  • Vic has Wemo/HomeKit rage.😂

They rounded out the show with Vic and Scott puzzled about the haters of Big Sur, Scott and Clay again puzzled by Vic’s choice in music and a new favorite Mac app from Panic. • Still with giant bezels (BEZELS?) and home button.
        • A12 bionic CPU, gen 1 Apple Pencil.
        • This looks like the body from the previous gen iPad Air, which is significantly nicer look and feel than the previous 10.2” 7th gen and 9.7” 6th gen that preceded it.
        • It’s still a good iPad for schools and kids.
      • iPad OS 14
        • Lots of great pencil updates with selecting, entering, editing, copy and paste
      • iPad Air
        • A14 bionic
          • Only Apple device with this new generation 5nm CPU.
          • ATP had a good analysis from John Siracusa on why this “base” A14 may not be as far ahead of the A12Z as people think, so it’s possible this isn’t quite the upset over the current iPad Pros as people may assume.
        • 64 GB and 256 GB.
        • Not a great camera at all.
        • It’s actually a new body and not just the body from the 11” iPad Pro, but it has the same iPad Pro design language.
        • The colors. Oh, the colors.
        • Touch ID in the power button instead of Face ID. Given my constant inability to locate the buttons on my iPad Pro, I don’t know if I’d like that. I’d like it in an iPhone, but I don’t know about on an iPad.
        • 10.9” screen. Not quite as bright and no pro-motion refresh rate
        • Apple Pencil 2 and 11” Magic Keyboard compatible

  • Sleep - Chidgey’s new sleep inducing podcast on TEN.

  • Scott can haz hardware!!

    • 2020 12.9” iPad Pro
      • Great performance
      • Beautiful giant screen
      • iPadOS really finally makes iPads non-frustrating for work. It’s a shame apple took so long to deliver this experience.
      • The size is amazing for working with on the keyboard - writing, programming, automating things. Also for drawing and photography. If you do those things, this is the one you want.
      • I have long fingers so I actually enjoy using it in tablet mode as well. I am not a person who leaves my iPad on the keyboard all the time like a lot of people, nor am I one who uses it casually for movies or reading only in tablet mode like a lot of other people. I like it for all those things and because it’s super versatile. It can be a great laptop (now) or a great tablet (now more so than ever).
      • For people who primarily want a tablet to use in tablet mode, I’d say get the 11”, but I’d also question why they want an iPad Pro instead of an iPad Air anyway.
    • Magic Keyboard
      • Smart connector goodness (instant use, no batteries, no BT delay)
      • Smart connector plus the design allows super fast context switching: the iPad comes off instantly and is a tablet again. There’s no taking it out of a case or turning anything off or unplugging anything.
      • Superbly solid feel to everything: the iPad platform, hinges, and the keyboard itself
      • REALLY nice to type on. I’m picky about my keyboards and this is nice. Not as quiet as the keyboard on the iMac, but I put that down to the construction.
      • The iPad is pushed forward towards the keyboard so the screen feels closer than it might. I like that.
      • Another benefit of the 12.9” iPad Pro vs the 11” is the full-size keyboards (both software and Magic Keyboard versions). The 11” version of the Magic Keyboard has more half-size keys and the software keyboard on it doesn’t have all the keys presented in default mode that the 12.9” one does.
      • The trackpad is nice as far as clicking and tapping (I have tap to click enabled) and for gestures involving multiple fingers and right-click (two-finger click). The only exception is when using the five-finger gesture to get into app-switcher, because the trackpad is vertically too short for me to do this comfortably with my fingers, but you can also just swipe down under the dock and hold it to get the app switcher.
      • Reviews have mentioned they wish the iPad could tilt over a wider range on the keyboard and I expected to be annoyed by this as well, but I’m not. So far it’s been great for me both on desks and on my lap.
      • The only negative so far are minor things, like the fact that you have to dig through settings to adjust the backlighting.
    • Apple Pencil 2
      • So much nicer to charge than the first gen pencil
      • I really don’t use the tap to change function feature yet, but maybe I will.

iTunes Reviews:

Early January, 2019 this year: 5-stars

One of my favorite friends with mics podcasts in iTunes by scottaw66 from USA on January 10, 2019

Three guys with wildly divergent personalities, an ability to nerd out like there’s no tomorrow (there probably isn’t), and a big spool of magnetic recording tape. The magnetic recording tape has nothing to do with this podcast, but whatever. I just like magnetic tape. Seriously, a fun, casual, relaxed podcast with three good friends who always bring their “A” game. I’ll let you decide what “A” stands for.

Mid-January this year: 5-stars

The amazing TRIO⭐️⭐️⭐️ ****by MillaB79 -When you listen to someone you haven’t met so much that you feel like you know them

  • and they always make you laugh
  • and they have the greatest conversations
  • and a 2 hour episode is over in a blink of an eye😉
  • oh, and the music at the very end is so amazing! No clue what beat that is but I absolutely love it and I don’t want it to end!

Apple’s 25th of March, 2019 Apple TV+ Event

Week leading up to the event Apple released:

  • iPads:
    • Update to iPad Air, now with A12, Old Pencil Support. Smart Keyboard for it too
    • iPad mini
    • All of these keep their Lightning ports and headphone jacks, Touch ID and no new features
    • Keep good prices though so unless you need real power, they’re finally good value
  • iMacs:
    • There’s now an iMac that performs 85-100% equivalent based on Geekbench test with the entry level iMac Pro for 1/3rd of the price
  • New AirPods:
  • Powerbeats Pro

AirPower:

  • September 2017 event Apple announced it
  • After a year or so of it not showing up Apple removed it from their site, scrubbed most evidence of it
  • Weirdly the new AirPod packaging had a picture of it on the back
  • Then four days after the Apple Event, and bam: they cancelled it completely

John’s new Camera Gear

John went halves with his son with an Elgato HD 60

  • Currently working on his first Zelda video

John bought and is trialling a knock-off Hermes band with a deployant clasp

New Headphones for Podcasting and Montoring/editing:

Bubblesorts new home and Vic’s fun plunging back into webdev and server stuff

Fri, 18 May 2018 19:45:00 +1000 Vic & Clay are blogging like it's 2003 while John clings to his federated independence and running servers. Of course no Bubblesort episode has been complete yet without a This Week in Sleep Tracking segment, Sorry Scott. We also briefly touched on selling used watches and John getting rid of his dodgy copper internet connection, but our main topics this episode are the announcement of Jodie Whittaker as the 13th Doctor and John’s new Nintendo Switch and the ensuing loss of time, life, work and family to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.
